This great skiing location has five mountains to pick from when starting your day. Mary Jane has the best “bump skiing” available in the state. Denver is just eighty miles to the east. The Winter Park ski train no longer operates, but Amtrak has trains that stop nearby in Frasier.
Loveland Ski Area
This ski area is the closest ski area to Denver. You get to Loveland via I-70. This ski area has the longest ski season in Colorado. This is also the most affordable of all Colorado ski areas. With perfect snow, great location and affordable prices, Loveland is definitely one of the best Colorado places to ski.
Arapahoe Basin Ski Area
Over the mountain pass and not far from Loveland is the Arapahoe Basin ski area. This is the best kept secret of Colorado skiing. Arapahoe is all business when it comes to skiing. It is the place that experts and intermediate skiers love. Only ten percent of the basin is for beginners.
